In a few minutes by car from the Mill waterfalls you can reach some of the most beautiful villages of the Maremma Tuscany, the beautiful village of Saturnia, which is one of the oldest cities in Italy and gives its name to the most famous spa resort, Manciano “La Spia della Maremma”, a beautiful village perched on a hill and holder of one of the most beautiful views of the Maremma, Pitigliano “The Little Jerusalem” with the Jewish Ghetto and the Synagogue, Montemerano one of the “Most Beautiful Villages in Italy”, Sorano and Sovana, in the heart of the Tuff Area and custodians of one of the most precious archaeological heritage of the Etruscan era of Tuscany, Vulci, an ancient Etruscan-Roman city and today a splendid archaeological-naturalistic park and, to close in beauty, Civita di Bagnoregio “La Città che Muore”.

Mill waterfalls are free spas, which means that admission is totally free and that there are no time restrictions to visit them, they are always open, all year round and 24 hours a day. The beauty of this place lies precisely in its wild and uncontaminated being, so you will not find sunbeds, umbrellas and changing rooms, at theMill waterfalls you live an authentic contact with nature and with the surrounding environment, in total freedom. There is a small dining area that offers services and showers for a fee. The waters are warm all year round, with a temperature of about 37.5°C, so pleasant in both summer and winter, in the cold season we advise you to keep a towel or bathrobe handy for when you leave the water. Natural pools can have a slightly slippery bottom, so it’s advisable to always wear rock shoes. We advise you not to wear jewelry during your bath, the sulphur-rich waters could in fact damage them. One of the best ways to experience the natural waterfalls of Saturnia is certainly a bath at night when the atmosphere is, if possible, even more magical, at night in fact you will have the opportunity to have the waterfalls almost at your complete disposal and enjoy in absolute tranquility these waters so particular and beneficial, pampered by the slow flow of the waters and illuminated only by the sweet light of the moon and the stars …
Water properties
Precious thermal waters are born on the summit of Amiata Mountain, a mountain of volcanic origin, and after a path that lasts 40 years during which they slowly filter, drop by drop, among the rocks in the depth of the ground, they reach the natural spring of Saturnia, from which they come out at a temperature of 37.5 °C. Saturnia’s waters are sulfides, with a concentration of hydrogen sulfide equal to 14mg per liter, carbonic, with 462 cc of free carbon dioxide per liter, sulfates, containing sulphate ions in significant quantities, bicarbonate-alkaline-earth, with ions of bicarbonate, calcium and magnesium. Due to their particular composition and richness of mineral salts and vitamins, Saturnia’s waters are particularly indicated in the treatment of skin pathologies, reduce blood pressure, have an important anti-aging action on the liver, increase lung ventilation and perform a natural function of reducing tension of circulatory and cardiovascular apparatuses. On the skin the water of Saturnia has extraordinary and unique properties in the world, it is in fact one of the few recommended in the care of psoriasis and thanks to the presence of thermal plankton, it increases the natural defenses of the skin, reactivates its vital functions and performs a moisturizing, nourishing and purified action, stimulating natural cell renewal and slowing down the aging process.
How to get to the Baths of Saturnia
I can reach the Mill Waterfalls from our farm in just 2.8km (about 5 minutes by car), it is enough to proceed in a north-west direction on via della Follonata for about 140meters, then turn left and proceed on the SP10 for about 750mt, then turn left and continue again for 1.9 km.
